Property appraiser office verifying addresses, taking pictures

Beginning on Monday, the Citrus County Property Appraiser’s Office will begin verifying addresses in the county, and taking pictures, too.

There will be white Ford window van(s), with digital photographic equipment located in each vehicle, traveling throughout each neighborhood, the property appraiser’s office said.

The effort is part of the office’s comprehensive address verification and property-imaging project, with the assistance of Yotta MVS, Inc. There will be white Ford window van(s), with digital photographic equipment inside, traveling through each neighborhood.

Each van will have a driver and a photographer inside, and a magnetic sign on each side of the van that reads, “Citrus County Property Appraiser Geoffrey Greene Data Verification Project, 352-341-6600.”

Property appraiser Geoff Greene says no one will ask to look at the inside of any home or business. Further, he said, photographs will only be taken from the public right-of-way.

The goals and benefits of the program are:

* Validate property addresses to identify homes and businesses for fire, law enforcement, and medical emergency response;
* Improve the overall quality of property assessment appraisals;
* Complete a property inventory of all improved parcels in the county;
* Save taxpayers money by making the property tax administration process more efficient;
* Assist homeowners and businesses with “before” photos, in case of losses;
* Enhance emergency management recovery reports, necessary for state and federal assistance

Greene says the project should wrap up by July 1. For more information, or to comment, call the property appraiser’s office at (352)341-6600.
